Tamoxifen is currently the most popular treatment recommended for all women with hormone driven breast cancer, regardless of the stage.

Treating breast cancer that has spread to other sites in the body. It is also used along with other medicines to treat other types of breast cancer. It is used in women who are at high risk for breast cancer and in women with DCIS (after surgery and radiation) to decrease the risk of developing breast cancer. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Nolvadex is an antiestrogen. It works by blocking the effect of estrogen on certain tumors. This may prevent the growth of tumors that are activated by estrogen.

Nolvadex is a serious prescription medication that needs to be taken only by people to whom it was recommended as taking it is associated with a number of adverse effects that some people may prefer to avoid. Nolvadex has been reported to contribute to the risk of developing certain other cancers when taken regularly by women, so before you start the treatment all the risks and benefits of the treatment are supposed to be discussed with a qualified health care professional. It’s very important to understand that in order to prevent breast cancer or reduce the risk of invasive cancer you may have to take some risk. While using this medicine you will need to see your health care provider often to make sure your treatment is going just as planned. Routine gynecological examinations are required, while any strange symptoms - such as vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, unusual vaginal discharge etc must be reported straight to your health care provider immediately.

Tamoxifen side effects

Tamoxifen side effects may include headaches, dizziness, nausea, hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, leg cramps, hair thinning, brain fog, pins and needles in hands and feet, joint pain, moodiness, depression and anxiety. Tamoxifen may also put a patient at a higher risk for blood clots in the legs (deep vein thrombosis) and the lungs (pulmonary embolism), endometrial cancer and overgrowth of the lining of the uterus.
